Kebab for lunch

I'm back in Czech Republic again, that means that I from now will use my school-english (mixed with some international errors) again!

I've been here since saturday, revicing for my exam next week. It's slow progress in my work, but there is still hope that I might pass my two finals. The most important thing for me is not to read everything, but to remember everything I read. I use 3 different histological atlases plus the handbook of practical classes, and youtube. There is, luckily, a professor (or something like that) who have commented about 200 slides of histological preparates, and put it out on the internet. It's very helpful to see what I missed out when I read the texts. It's also easier to learn how to identify different cells and structures when somebody points them out for me and explain their function and apperance. So for you medicine students who are terrified for your histology or histopathology final:

Another nice thing is that there is a brand new kebab-store on the hospital area. The owner of the restaurant actually know what "halal" means, so it is good news for my malaysian classmates too. The kebab itself is loaded with chicken meat, salad, fresh onion, chili, other vegetables of your choise... and it tastes really nice! The price is 75 Kc, about 20-25 norwegian crowns. I was supposed to take a picture of it, but I ate it before I had time to do that.. Yummy!

Shopping, Czech style!

Well. You probably all know that I'm a typical nordic person. Blond hair, blue eyes, fair skin. And every summer I do the same mistake. I never learn! I really wanted to have my time in the sun today. And I got burned. I'm look like a new-boiled lobster. Pink, someone?

So, what to do? A good idea is to buy some sunscreen. And aftersun. So I went shopping! And you know what? The drugstore had both aftersun and sunscreen left! SPF 16 on the sunscreen, perfect! The seller showed the bottle to me, and asked if this was the one I desired. Yes, thanks, I'll take that! How much does it cost? It's the last one. It's not for sale!

This is typically czech. A year ago, two of my schoolmates went to buy dresses for the big faculty ball. They found the perfect dresses. Krasny, krasny, the seller said. Good, we'll take those! Not for sale!

The people of Czech Republic doesn't understand capitalism...

And by the way, I failed my histo final today. I'll make it on the retake. I hope.

Bus

There are some remnants of rigid communistic rules in Czech Republic. The collective transport system is exellent. The frequency of buses is high on daytime, and the price is cheap (14 Kc for a single one-way ticket). The first bus starts up 4 o'clock in the morning, and in the rush there is a new departure every tenth minuit. The last bus finishes at midnight.

So what's rigid about this? Well, acutally. At midnight there is a "Cinderella-transformation" on all buses. The drivers says; "sorry, you have to leave the bus now." It doesn't matter if the bus is just midway in its route. You have to leave the bus, that's just the rule.

The way i found out of this strange rule? I went shopping (the mall is open 24/7) with SiljeCam yesterday. And suddently we decided to go to the cinema (also located in the mall). And it usually takes some time. So we were on our way out 23.50, and, by luck, just in time for the last bus. But the happiness didn't last for more than 10 minuits. And I had to walk the last 2-3 kilometers home with my groseries in the rain. I usually don't mind to walk a bit, but still.. I want to decide myself when and why I should walk..

Good and bad things about Czech republic.

There is some bad things about living in Czech republic. The language I have to learn is one thing (did I mention 7 different cases? Conjungation of czech verbs? It's driving me crazy). The lack of smoking laws is an another. Traffic is killing dangerous. A friend of me have had contact of first degree with local heroes; he's stitched and bruised in his face now.. And a new weekend is just coming up..
Racism is also quite normal here. Luckily, I'm white, but most of my classmates are not. We try to stay out of the hard core czech bars and night clubs. Equality of opportunity and treatment is not allways evident here.
And then we have the fact that.. ehhhm... To quote my favourite songwriter "Mannen bredvid stinker svett"..

I have to read, read, panic-read, read some more, discuss medical subjects with my classmates, read some more, sleep, read, eat, panic-read.. Yeah, that's it!

But.. of course. There is some good things about living in Czech republic. As you can see of my refrigator today. Total cost: 299 Kc, including 3 rolls, milk and butter...
