Dictators and other authorities.

Meet my parents. Political correct teachers (and one of them; part time "rugguggla"...). I invited my parents to read (and comment) my blog. And they apperently did. But they're not happy about my.. perception of my enviroments. Thus, today I've done some editing. It may be some more later. But I believed in the freedom of speech!! I don't have that many readers yet, but you might see what's different.

Other things: I had my first exam today. I dont know if I failed or passed, doesn't matter, actually. But it would be nice to pass.. Time will show! It was the pre-oral in biophys btw. My plans for the day is to pack my stuff into a suitcase, wash my entire flat and do the dishes. Tomorrow morning I'll head for the airport. Mom, dad! I'm coming home! =) Even if you don't like my blogging style.. =)

Weekend and viruses

I feel.. Blond. Actually, blonder. Blondest! I installed a virus on my laptop today. I knew there was a virus going on. I knew how it was spread.. I knew it all. And still, I installed it. Luckily, I managed to delete it before it did to much evil. I'm sorry to all my friends who got a infected link from me.

The picture is a sheme of a bacteriophag, a virus who infect bacterias, btw. Thus, not the virus which infected my computer.

This weekend was supposed to be spent on reading, and only reading. Got my first exam on tuesday. But there have been a lot more than reading. Parties, visiting cafees, chatting with friends.. Hopefully, I'll make it trough my stuff before tuesday. And I don't have to pass this exam (lucky me), but it would be a avantage.. And then.. I'm heading back home!

Good and bad things about Czech republic.

There is some bad things about living in Czech republic. The language I have to learn is one thing (did I mention 7 different cases? Conjungation of czech verbs? It's driving me crazy). The lack of smoking laws is an another. Traffic is killing dangerous. A friend of me have had contact of first degree with local heroes; he's stitched and bruised in his face now.. And a new weekend is just coming up..
Racism is also quite normal here. Luckily, I'm white, but most of my classmates are not. We try to stay out of the hard core czech bars and night clubs. Equality of opportunity and treatment is not allways evident here.
And then we have the fact that.. ehhhm... To quote my favourite songwriter "Mannen bredvid stinker svett"..

I have to read, read, panic-read, read some more, discuss medical subjects with my classmates, read some more, sleep, read, eat, panic-read.. Yeah, that's it!

But.. of course. There is some good things about living in Czech republic. As you can see of my refrigator today. Total cost: 299 Kc, including 3 rolls, milk and butter...

And here we go again. Studentni testy!

Didn't know it, but I was allowed to take the oral part of czech credit today. Unprepared, I was only going to ask my teacher a question. But Zaneta passed me!! Only the written part left, but it's also the hardest part.

I need to memorize some hundred words in czech medical terminology. Predpis-lopatka-krev-sin-ledvina.. Yeah, it's just 245 words left then!

And then there is the grammar part. I only need to know nominative singular and plural, accusative singular, and accusative plural for feminine, neuter and maculine inanimate. But it's czech! Adjectives are changed due to gender, case and number. Verbs are conjungated in all directions. Just as you know it: I once wake up in the middle of the night, conjungating czech verbs! Nightmare!!

I have to prepare for biophys/biostat pre-oral exam, but I can't concentrate. Luckily, Noel is coming over tonight to do some histo (he must take the credit tomorrow). And he promised me to help me out with biophys; we are both going to take the pre-oral 22. january. We will help eachother out. And it actually doesn't matter if we fail, but I'ld like to pass.. The professors kind of .. like you better on the oral then..

And finally some good news! I got my brand new limited edition kent CD "tillbaka till samtiden" and maxiCD single "ingenting" today. Direct from Göteborg by air mail. Listening through it right now. It's exellent, but different. Jocke (songwriter) have made some very nice lyrics again. Let me try to translate it to english;

Nothing
First was nothing
then nothing
then nothing
but nothing is (nothing, nothing, nothing)
Those bastards got us
one by one
they lied and fraud us
with the truth
Those bastards took my love there
From the top of the hill
can I see my lost world.

You never know what they want with their lyrics. I'm planning to go to Bukta festival in Tromsø this summer holiday. They're gonna play there.

And now.. Anatomy credit

I'm on the track! Can't say I nailed it down this time, but I passed. The topic was internal organs; circulatory system, respiratory system and digestive system. Written test, 40 min for 26 questions. (Name all levators of pharynx?)

28 out of 56 students in my class passed this test.

And then I only need to attend to one czech class, do a pre-oral exam (which i actually don't have to pass) and then go home for 3 weeks! Yay!

Flight tickets is allready bought, mom and dad is informed about my arrival, the houserent here is paid and everything is prepared..

I just hope that my mail arrive before I leave Czech republic; I'm waiting for the newest album from kent, a swedish rock band I just love.

So what to do back home? Order some new CD's, reading for my czech credit test, read even more for my oral exam in biophysics and biostatistics, visit my brother with family, go skiing with my father... It's a long list!

And my brother showed me the new Mac Book Air yesterday.. I love it! I'm really thinking of buy it. But not yet.. Not before I have passed this entire year.

Histo credit test

I made it! I got my very first credit in histology. The question was thymus in involution, not the easiest slide. I got the mark "2-very good". Happy!!
The test is like this: we are all gathered in the histolab. We have all our books, notes and microscopes and slideboxes aviable. Then one by one get up to the front, where the teacher give you a single slide, a paper for notes and a microscope. You are not allowed to bring anyting but a pencil. Then you look at the slide macroscopically, and in the microscope.
The task is to identify this nice, pinkstained piece of tissue, and tell as much as possible about it. Then the professor ask a lot of questions. Then you answer, hopefully a bit more than what he/she asked for. And then you get your mark.

Just for your information. Thymus is sitting in your anterior/superior mediastinum. It's a place where t-lymphocytes matures (or get killed by apoptosis after negative and positive selection). There is a lot of adipose tissue in the thymus in involution. And there is someting called Hassal's corpuscles in the cortex.
And if you don't understand it at all, it's ok. I hardly understand it myself.. It's just this way it is!

First trial

Hey guys!

I do have a blog on my homepage, but I can't write in it.. So I decided to make a brand new one. Girls and techincal skills, you know.. =)

My plan was to create this blog (or use the old one) from the day I started to study medicine. But the first 6 months have been busy...
...very busy. But it's a new year, and new possibilities, so I start now!

As you can see, I'm supposed to work with my microscope today. Histo slide test tomorrow! That's the second reason for making this blog just today! ;-)

Due to my international class, this blog is written in english and maybe some czech from time to time.

I'll upload some photos and write down some stories from my everyday life.. Enjoy!
