Backstage!

My summer holiday has just started, and I'll write my posts in norwegian for a while. (google might translate it for you..)

"Tack for forsvarstalet
we <3 u"

Kjekt i tilfelle oljen tar slutt...

Så hva snakket jeg med kent om? Illegal nedlasting, musikk, framtidsplaner, favoritter og en symbolrebus.. Noe mer kan jeg ikke si.

Bildene;

2: En stykk utydelig bassist
3: Kent bjuder på Corona, ölbiljett

Shopping, Czech style!

Well. You probably all know that I'm a typical nordic person. Blond hair, blue eyes, fair skin. And every summer I do the same mistake. I never learn! I really wanted to have my time in the sun today. And I got burned. I'm look like a new-boiled lobster. Pink, someone?

So, what to do? A good idea is to buy some sunscreen. And aftersun. So I went shopping! And you know what? The drugstore had both aftersun and sunscreen left! SPF 16 on the sunscreen, perfect! The seller showed the bottle to me, and asked if this was the one I desired. Yes, thanks, I'll take that! How much does it cost? It's the last one. It's not for sale!

This is typically czech. A year ago, two of my schoolmates went to buy dresses for the big faculty ball. They found the perfect dresses. Krasny, krasny, the seller said. Good, we'll take those! Not for sale!

The people of Czech Republic doesn't understand capitalism...

And by the way, I failed my histo final today. I'll make it on the retake. I hope.

Thunder and lightening!

The summer weather is ever changing here in Czech Republic. I woke up 4 o'clock this morning due to the rain pouring down. It was actually quite nice, my window is just above my bed, so small drops of water rinsed my face. Refreshing!

But when I got up about 5 hours later, the sun was shining. But in the swetty, humid and terrible way. I went shopping before breakfast (had no bread..) and just 10 minits after I came home, the rain set in again. It went from a sunny blue sky to black stormy clouds in like 1o minits! It wasn't refreshing this time. Just buckets of water and hagels large as peas playing drums on my windows. It was actually a bit scary when the light went out in a big flashlight.. It lasted about a half hour. The electrisity came back quite soon, and I finally deared to go out to the Educational Center (EC from now on). On my way, I took som photos from the streets between my apartement and the EC.. Nasty!

Other tings; got my histo final tomorrow (and doesn't look forward to it..) and forgot my check-up at the neurochurgical clinic today. Luckily, the zdravotni setra (nurse) was able to give me a new apointment on wednesday. I will try to remember it this time.

Bus

There are some remnants of rigid communistic rules in Czech Republic. The collective transport system is exellent. The frequency of buses is high on daytime, and the price is cheap (14 Kc for a single one-way ticket). The first bus starts up 4 o'clock in the morning, and in the rush there is a new departure every tenth minuit. The last bus finishes at midnight.

So what's rigid about this? Well, acutally. At midnight there is a "Cinderella-transformation" on all buses. The drivers says; "sorry, you have to leave the bus now." It doesn't matter if the bus is just midway in its route. You have to leave the bus, that's just the rule.

The way i found out of this strange rule? I went shopping (the mall is open 24/7) with SiljeCam yesterday. And suddently we decided to go to the cinema (also located in the mall). And it usually takes some time. So we were on our way out 23.50, and, by luck, just in time for the last bus. But the happiness didn't last for more than 10 minuits. And I had to walk the last 2-3 kilometers home with my groseries in the rain. I usually don't mind to walk a bit, but still.. I want to decide myself when and why I should walk..

Why didn't I fail?

My professor passed me in latin today, so I have one more final done. But I'm a bit confused. I had really many errors on my final paper. It was confused and not correct at all. Strange that the professor passed me. I wouldn't argumented if she failed me, the paper was bad.

I probably won't ever harm any of my patients due to bad latin, actually; most medical faculties doesn't require latin as a subject for up and coming doctors. But still?

I hope I do better on my histology final in two weeks. I'll at least try.

Trabant

It's quite funny. These cars are still in daily use! Often seen with young drivers. =)

Labels

Have you ever thougt about the signal effect of a label? Or a tag?

Just think of it. When you were born, the midwife or nurse immediatly gave you a label. A plastic bracelet around your wrist and maybe one more around your leg. Inside the plastic pocket she placed a small piece of paper with your mothers name, your date of birth and maybe your name too, if you had one. In Czech Republic they even tag the poor baby with a special pen on the thigh, with the mother's name, just to be sure.

If you ever go to a festival, you'll probably get tagged with a similar bracelet. Maybe with a color code if you have special permissions during the festival, or belong to a defined group.

In the western world, a bracelet around your wrist means eighter that you're a patient in a hospital, or a normal person who paid for admission to a peticular place or happening.

Another way to tag people when you bind a small piece of paper around the big toe. Yes, when the person is diseased. A photo of a bare foot with a label fastened with a string is quite powerful. You know that this person isn't alive anymore. You might have aversions to have a label like that on yourself. It might makes you feel bad.

So what about the labels? I went to Thailand six and a half years ago. For a huge scout camp, a so called "World Jamboree". 30 000 people gathered on a beach for eleven days. Everything was ready for the camp of our lives! We were all given a plastic bracelet with a plastic pocket to put a identification paper in, as usual in such big gatherings. The command was clear: Wear it, or you'll be asked to leave the camp immediatly. There was only one problem. For the thais, and for most of the other asians, this wrist-label was synonymous with death. A bracelet like this is mostly used to label dead people in Asia. A lot of young people was forced to wear something they felt belonged to the dead only. It's like if we where admitted to a hospital and the nurse tagged us with a toe-tag instead of a bracelet... I can just imagine how it must have felt for the asian scouts..

Strange, though, I wasn't labelled when I was admitted to the hospital in april. I think they just forgot it.

You passed the test.

Maybe the best sentence to hear when you study in Czech Republic. Because the opposite is just as frequent.

I passed my latin credit, and are now allowed to take the final. It will be on wednesday at two. Everything I pass make it much easier for me. My hope now is to pass histology (credits and final), latin final and maybe biology credit before I start my summer vacation.

I also have to have my study record signed for hepatitis B vaccination, and go for a check-up for my spine (some x-rays have to be taken). And the last things to do is an auditory test due to my head trauma in the accident and go for a consultation with my czech teacher.
